A trip to Lago Lodge is truly a memmorable expedition in itself.

There are two basic routes of travel from Manaus to Lago Lodge. The year round route, included in our basic rate, leaves Manaus in the morning for a water crossing to the south shore of the Amazon River and the Port of Careiro da Várzea. Travel forty two kilometers on the Transamazonica Highway to the small port town of Araça. Then, a picturesque motor boat trip brings you into the very large Lake Mamori, and in minutes you have arrived at the jungle island of Lago Lodge.

Soon after departing Manaus, you'll witness the famed meeting of the waters in the Amazon.

From January until the end of August, a direct water route is available. During this period of high water, a covered motor boat is the choice way to go. This route takes about three hours. The boat leaves from the floating dock by the Lago Lodge, Manaus office. The first hour takes you across the two largest rivers in the Amazon. The boat weaves through intricate waterways, by floating villages, including the supply port of Araça.

This route is only slightly more expensive than the water and land route, and Lago Lodge covers a large portion of the boat charter. The chaterted boat remains at the Lodge for use by your group for your entire stay. For groups larger than five people, we cover the entire cost for the direct water route.

Another way to travel to the Island is on a cargo boat. From February to September the water route to Lake Mamori works for a single deck covered riverboat to travel the 6 hour trip. This is an interesting way to travel as there is room for more than 25 people in hammocks or to place a seat on the roof. Most of the cargo is carried below the main deck.  Even a meal is served to the passengers. The views from the boat are incredible. On the roof one must duck occasionally to dodge branches as the boat squeezes through the narrow waterways. The boats deliver freight and passengers to the farms and ranches around the Lake and stop right at the Lake Lodge marina and drop supplies at our Island.

Those visitors who wish to go along on the shopping spree before each trip are welcome to do so. This includes trips to the local fresh markets along the river.  Special meals are available upon request and encouraged as we try and meet each groups special tastes.

On the way from Manaus, you will see river towns and settlements, markets, boat traffic of all types.

The small town of Araça is the last leg of the overland trip on the Tansamazonian Highway. Last minute supplies can be obtained here.

A guide will accompany the group throughout the trip. A Brazilian couple, local to the area, care for the lodge. They will prepare all the meals, including any fresh fish caught by you, if so desired. The food is delicious. No one will be dissappointed.

Fantastic views of equatorial sunsets.

At Lago Lodge we will have the dugouts and motorized canoes to take you on a jungle excursion, through the intricate waterways that make up the river basin.

Or enjoy swimming nearby the Lodge. Swim with the gray or rose colored river dolphins that make an appearance each afternoon right off our dock.

Enjoy fascinating guided tours of the river basin, or nature hikes where you can see, feel and learn why the Amazon Jungle is so important to the earth's ecosystem.

Walk through first-growth Amazon Forest. View and learn about the plant life in the region, with an emphasis on their medicinal qualities. See equatorial animals and birds in their natural habitat.

Crocodile spotting excursion: Our guide captures a live Amazona Caiman, discusses it's traits and habitat.

Or, if you choose, fish and relax the old-fashioned way.
